One of our most popular themes! In Toy Design, girls think broadly and creatively in considering play + toys + design. They create and package their own toys using tons of fun, accessible materials. We provide an appealing array of colorful, tactile supplies and, with a little bit of instruction, girls get a chance to try everything.
Lessons in design are emphasized through specific projects like ‘toy-for-a-friend’ (designing for an audience), miniatures (designing in scale) and boxed toy sets (package design). In some projects, we narrow the focus to a specific material or technique. Girls explore the effects of concentrated color choices, textures and basic construction methods. For other projects, the subject is concrete (like a dollhouse or costume accessory), but the design is open-ended. Girls dive into the supplies to put together fabulous creations that surprise and delight!
Favorite projects include shoebox dollhouses, shadow boxes, miniature environments, costume-making, kaleidoscopes, puzzle boxes, mobiles, mustachios, simple games and more.
This is arts-and-crafts taken to a new level, with a functional, play-oriented twist!
